What does success really mean to you? It’s important to clarify your thoughts, goals and desires before you can achieve success! You can’t work towards something passionately when you aren’t sure what the end result will be.
Success means many different things to different people. Unfortunately, the tendency is to view monetary gain as success. However, financial wealth is only a small part of overall success.
Different Areas of Success
Because there are different areas of success, you can be successful in one area and unsuccessful in others. In order to develop a plan for your success, you need to make your own list of areas that are relevant to you.
* To achieve overall success in life, you’ll need to examine your priorities in each area.
For many of us, there are 3 main components of success. In your personal plan for success, there may be even more. Be sure to include any areas that are important to you.
Here are the 3 main areas, along with some tips and techniques to help you evaluate your priorities and formulate your success plan:
1. Career. To evaluate your career, contemplate these questions:â¨
* Do you desire a higher status position?
* What amount of income would make you happy?
* Would you simply like to feel appreciated by your boss?â¨
Any number of things can be used to measure your success when it comes to your career.
* In your career evaluation, be sure to determine what strengths and weaknesses you have that can help or hinder you from achieving your goal.
2. Emotional. These questions can guide you to important considerations for your emotional success:â¨
* Are you satisfied with your relationships?
* What have you learned so far that could help you do better in the future?
* If you have children, do you feel successful in how you’re raising them?
* Is your marriage a happy one?
3. Health. Are you doing everything you can to improve your overall well-being? Maybe a change in diet and exercise is in order. Take a moment to evaluate whether you’ve achieved success in this area or if there’s room for improvement.
* If your health can use a boost, make a plan to start implementing changes in your daily routine that lead to a healthier lifestyle.
The Journey to Success
Your journey to success will have highs and lows throughout your life. There will be mistakes and disappointments. You may experience a setback at some point. The beauty is that you can get back on track and move closer to your goals at any time.
* You may achieve new levels of success at different times in your life and career. As you progress in your job, start a family, and get involved in giving back to your community, your definition of success may change, as do your priorities. Go with the flow; it’s okay for your outlook on life and your meaning of success to change over time.
* Love what you do! Life is too short to be stuck doing something you despise. To achieve success in life, work with what you’ve got. Focus on your strengths and interests and do the things that bring those to the forefront of your life.
* Challenges and obstacles are opportunities for improvement and further success. Everyone has setbacks at some point in their lives. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be human. The successful individual has the confidence that he can and will do better!
Every so often, it’s very important to step back and re-evaluate your idea of success. There are so many changes in life and with each one you’ll find that your priorities change also. Never underestimate the power that comes from persistence and experience, just don’t forget to enjoy the journey!
TweetHow to Write a Great Resume
If you’re in the market for a new job, the quality of your resume can make all the difference. With careful planning and proper formatting, you can write a great resume that just may land you your dream job.
Here are some quick resume tips to get you on your way:
1. Be brief. Your goal is to get your point across quickly and effectively. Don’t fill your resume with fluff. Chances are your potential employer won’t have a lot of time to read every detail, so stick with the meat.
2. Start with action verbs. If you start your sentences with action verbs in the past tense, you’ll be stating your past jobs in a brief, yet effective, way.
* An example would be using a sentence that starts with “Managed” or “Coached” instead of starting a description with “I was a manager of a sales team.”
3. Targeting. Make sure that your resume and cover letter reflect your interest in the job you want. This means you’ll want to place all the relevant job information at the top or at the head of a section where it’s most likely to be seen.
* Oftentimes the manager won’t be the first one to read your resume. Target your information so you make the first cut.
4. Keywords. Include the relevant keywords associated with the position you’re seeking. Tweak your resume to include the job title you want as well as the keywords associated with your potential job functions.
* This is especially important because employers may be searching for your resume online by querying these specific keywords.
5. Bullet Points. It’s important to break up your text with bullet points to avoid lengthy paragraphs. This also helps employers gain the information they need while quickly skimming your resume.
6. One Page. You probably have a lot to say on your resume. Even if you keep your resume to the main points, you may be tempted to submit a resume that’s several pages long. Don’t give in to this temptation! If you need to trim down, try deleting some of the items not relevant to the job.
* If you must go beyond the one page rule, keep the resume to two pages, maximum.
7. Don’t get fancy. There’s no need to provide intricate designs or colored textured paper. It’s recommended that you stick to white paper. You’ll stand out to your employer because of the fantastic skills listed on the paper, not because of the quality paper itself or the unique font you picked.
8. Explain your skills. Don’t just provide a laundry list of your skill set. You can still remain brief while explaining how your skills can benefit the company. This tip alone can greatly improve your chances of getting noticed.
9. Tweak your template. You may have found a template to use online to build your resume. These can be useful to help you get an idea of what a resume should include. However, you shouldn’t copy and paste because other applicants may be using the same template.
* If you want to stand out to your employer, you don’t want to risk looking like everyone else.
10. Avoid silly mistakes. Be sure to go over the final copy thoroughly. It may help to have a professional or trusted friend read it first before submitting. Be sure your resume is grammatically correct and avoid typos at all costs.
If you keep these tips in mind, you’ll be well on your way to landing that dream job. Now the only thing you’ll need to think about is the interview!

If you’re looking for a job for the first time or you’d like to switch careers, you may be wondering where your talents lie. The one thing you know is that you want to find a job that you enjoy, but how can you tell what you would be good at before you get the job?
The best way to determine a job worth pursuing is by doing a job skills assessment. A self-assessment will allow you to explore your personality type, find out what you’re good at, and determine your values.
Here’s a list of questions that may be a part of a self-assessment:
* Do you tend to be introverted or extroverted?
* Do you generally remain calm, or do you get nervous easily?
* How organized are you?
* What is your general temperament?
* What are your general interests?
* Do you enjoy risky situations?
Formal Job Skills Assessment Tests
There are many job skills assessment tests available online that may even be several hundred questions long. These tests are designed to determine answers to the questions above.
Sometimes a potential employer will want you to be evaluated before your interview. However, if you can compose a list that combines your personality traits with skills that you’re good at, you can assess your potential careers yourself.
The Answer is in Your Interests
By reflecting on your hobbies you may be able to determine a viable career choice. Try answering these questions and consider the recommendations:
1. Do you tend to like working with tools and objects, or working with other people?
* If you like working with tools or objects you may be suited for a career in building, repair, or engineering.â¨
* If you enjoy working with others perhaps you’d make a good sales representative, team leader, or manager.
2. Do you prefer things to be concrete and organized, or do you prefer the creative?
* Most career choices will involve organization to some degree, but if you prefer creative options you may be suited for a career in art, music, advertising, or photography.
3. Do you like projects that involve a finished physical product, or a social result such as improved self-esteem?
* If you prefer to see a finished product, you could be suited for a career in sales or product creation. You may even like science and experimenting.â¨
* If you prefer social results, you could consider some form of counseling or social work.
4. Do you tend to enjoy business or science?
* This is an easy question, but understanding yourself can help you determine whether you would be suited for a career in entrepreneurship or experimentation and research.
5. Do you prefer when things are the same everyday or different?
* If you prefer a consistent day-to-day routine, you may want to consider office work like accounting, or repair and construction work.â¨
* If you like to see differences in your day, you might be better suited for a creative profession like writing, directing, or designing.
6. Do you prefer to follow or take charge?
* If you’re a person that tends to take charge, you could be a great team leader someday. Look for a career where you get to manage people and lead everyone to a common goal.
7. Are you good at interpreting feelings?
* If you have proven to have a high emotional intelligence, you may be suited for teaching or counseling. These careers require you to understand what your students or clients are feeling and understanding.
Choosing your Career
You should now have a better idea about what kinds of jobs to look for in your career search. If not, you should at least be able to narrow down your choices to a few categories. You always have the option of reading books or taking classes in order to get a better understanding of your career choice and to develop your skill set.
Remember that you can do anything you want when you’re determined. Finding a job in line with your personal preferences helps you take advantage of your passion so you can achieve greater success.

Do you work in a career that doesn’t satisfy you? It’s easy to feel stuck because your job is providing you with security. It’s a scary thing to leave that security for the pursuit of your passion!
At the same time, there are steps you can take today to build the career you truly desire. Your passion for your new career can catapult you to success and unlock your dreams.
Confucius said, “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Heed his advice and you’ll be glad you left your old job behind!
Here are some strategies that can help you transition to your dream career:
1. Get focused. It’s important to have a plan in place. Write down the specific job you’d like to have and the steps you need to take in order to get there.
2. Assign a timeline. Be sure to give yourself a realistic timeline. As much as you’d like to start your dream job right away, you don’t want to risk stressing yourself out about it.
3. Consider the financial cost. If your dream career involves owning your own business, it’s important to figure out how much this is going to cost you. Research your options, such as how you can save up the money or obtain a small business loan.
4. Seek advice. Look to people who already have your dream career and discuss your options with them. If this isn’t feasible, find websites or message boards online that pertain to the field.
Time Management
Your current career probably already takes up a great deal of your time, so it’s important to manage your time well if you’re going to launch a new career. Allot yourself an hour or two each day to work toward your dream career.
Case Studies
Here are some examples of how others have been able to transition to their dream career. It’s refreshing to see how, with some smart action, you too can reach your career goals.
1. Harry’s story. Harry is a businessman who attended to his job during regular 9-5 hours, Monday through Friday. At night and sometimes on weekends, he learned about online business and outsourcing.
He saved up money and soon launched his very own online business, having learned the ropes while he was saving up the money. Eventually his online income reached a level where he could leave his 9-5 job and work full time for his new business.
2. Betty’s story. Betty is a stay-at-home mom, and cares for her children all day. She decided she wanted to make and sell crafts. So she started making the craft items she enjoyed when the children were quiet or asleep.
Then she learned how to use websites like eBay and Etsy to market and sell her crafts. Now she enjoys relaxing while she makes her crafts and earns a solid income stream by selling them online.
The common element in these two examples is the fact that these people were willing to work and do whatever it takes to find their vision of success. It’s easy to say that most people who start their own business fail, however, just like everything in life, if you keep getting up and trying, you’ll eventually reach your goals!
Plan your transition, work your plan, and soon you’ll discover that you’ve acquired the career of your dreams!

Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut? You wake up each morning and go to the same job, driving on the same roads, walking on the same streets, and doing the same thing day after day – and that gets pretty boring!
Do you feel unappreciated at work? You may be a hard worker but never get the true recognition you deserve from your boss and colleagues. Just once you would like your boss to pat you on the back and say, “Good job,” but unfortunately that day never seems to come.
If this describes you, it may be time to fire your boss and venture out on your own. Although this may seem like a completely overwhelming move, it may not be as hard as you think!
Consider taking advantage of options like these:
1. Become a Virtual Assistant. Being a Virtual Assistant allows you the flexibility of staying at home while managing tasks for other companies.
* This is a great option if you enjoy computer work, managing tasks, paperwork, or customer service.
* Though it may take a bit of time to get your VA business off the ground, virtual assistants can command a high price for their services, especially if they have technical skills.
2. Join an MLM (Multi Level Marketing) company. These businesses are all the rage lately, but they do have their pros and cons. If you think that perhaps an MLM company is the business for you, be sure to do your research.
* Make sure the company you decide to partner with has a good track record. You can confirm this by speaking with other representatives of the company and checking the Better Business Bureau and similar websites for more information.
* Another fact you must be aware of is the sign up fee that can range from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars. Some companies even charge upwards of $1,000 to be a representative.
* Many people succeed at a multi level marketing business, but countless others fail miserably. Research the details of what you’ll need to do to succeed in your chosen business and ask yourself if you can do what it takes.
* It would be in your best interest to become informed and educated about the business before you sign on the dotted line and hand over your hard-earned money.
3. Make and sell your own crafts. Are your friends envious about the beautiful things you can make with your own two hands? Then this may be the business you’re looking for! With websites such as eBay and Etsy, as well as local arts and craft shows, many people are making a substantial living selling their homemade creations.
* Unique or one-of-a-kind items always sell at higher prices than the common ones.
4. Become a Life Coach. This business opens up a realm of possibilities. If you enjoy listening to people and providing advice, becoming a life coach may intrigue you. A life coach provides good, solid advice to individuals relating to a particular area in their life.
* A life coach can specialize in many different areas. For example, some coaches only deal with stay at home moms, while others help those wanting to make more money or lose weight. The options are absolutely endless.â¨
* You can go for training and become a certified coach at your local college or online.
* You must promote and market yourself strongly, and it may take awhile to get the business of the ground. But if this is something that you truly hold a passion for, it can turn into an extremely lucrative endeavor.
5. Become a Caterer. Does everyone say that no one can cook like you do? Do you get request after request for your recipes? Do you find spending time in the kitchen relaxing? Then starting a catering business may be something you’ll want to explore further.
* As in any business, it may take a bit of patience and energy to get it started, but the benefits will be well worth the energy. Make sure to call your friends and family and tell them to spread the word about your new catering business.
* Once you can secure your first party or event, you’ll have word of mouth recommendations marketing your business for you. If cooking is your passion and you learn how to manage food costs and market your business, then you’ll have no problem succeeding in this lucrative industry.
These are just a few ways to fire your boss and start your own business. Your next step is to decide where your passion lies. Decide what you enjoy doing and go from there. Beginning your own business is not easy, but with a dash of hope, dreams, patience, and hard work, you’ve just won half the battle!
